All right, Rob. Let's go over the family vocabulary. You're no longer going to translate from English to Spanish, but you're going to answer my questions directly. Are you ready?

[00:00:11]
Translation

Yeah, I think so.

[00:00:13]

[00:00:16]
Translation

Your mum's dad is your grandfather.

[00:00:19]

[00:00:23]
Translation

Let me think. Your mum's daughter must be your sister. Right?

[00:00:27]
Translation

Of course. Do you know who my wife's brother is?

[00:00:31]
Translation

I'm not sure. Your son-in-law?

[00:00:34]
Translation

No, my son-in-law is my daughter's husband.

[00:00:38]
Translation

Oh, of course. Your wife's brother is your brother-in-law.

[00:00:43]
Tienes razón. Siguiente.
Si without a stress mark means 'if'. The Spanish word for 'yes' is with a stress mark.
Si
yo soy el sobrino de Javier, ¿qué es él conmigo?
Translation

You're right. Next. If I'm Javier's nephew, what's he to me?

[00:00:49]
Translation

Well, your uncle, obviously. That was easy.

[00:00:53]
Translation

That's good. Tell me, please, who is my sister's daughter?

[00:00:58]
Translation

Your granddaughter.

[00:01:00]
Me haces sentir vieja. Yo no tengo nietos. Apenas
Spanish speakers 'have' an age, using the verb tener. Tengo 25 años: 'I am (have) 25 (years)'
tengo
25 años. Inténtalo de nuevo.
Translation

You make me feel old. I don't have grandchildren. I'm barely 25. Try again.

[00:01:06]
No qué me pasa. Por supuesto la hija de tu hermana es tu sobrina. Es que
Confundo means 'I confuse something'. Me confundo con... on the other hand, means 'I get confused'.
me confundo
a veces con las palabras nuevas.
Translation

I don't know what's wrong with me. Of course your sister's daughter is your niece. I just get confused sometimes with new words.

[00:01:14]
Translation

No problem. Your answer is correct. Now think about this. What relationship do I have with my uncles' children?

[00:01:23]
Translation

That's easy. You're all cousins.

[00:01:26]
Translation

You learn fast. One more question. Who's my dad's wife?

[00:01:31]
Translation

That's not fair, teacher. There are two possible answers. Your dad's wife could be your mum or maybe your stepmum, if your dad married a second time.

[00:01:42]
Tener la razón means 'to be right'. Estar equivocado means 'to be wrong'.
Tienes toda la razón.
Bueno, felicitaciones por tu excelente memoria.
Translation

You're absolutely right. Well, congratulations on your excellent memory.

[00:01:48]
Translation

Thank you, teacher. I think it's a very easy topic.
